Seattle Colleges and Universities
Students looking for Seattle colleges and universities can look forward to being immersed in two essentials of college life: coffee and music. Known as both the birthplace of Starbucks Coffee and the grunge musical movement of the 1990s, Seattle is a center for culture and education in Washington. It has been ranked both the most literate and the most educated city in America, perhaps thanks to the number of Seattle colleges and universities.
Alternative education is big in Seattle. Seattle colleges and universities include the Seattle Maritime College’s ocean-bound training programs, courses in herbs and acupuncture at the Seattle Institute of Oriental Medicine, and astrological studies at the unaccredited Kepler College. Although these colleges offer advanced degrees, students who prefer traditional sciences should check out the 40,000-plus student University of Washington, ranked among the best in the country for its medical, nursing, social work, speech pathology, nuclear physics, and engineering programs.
